Our first stop on the China adventure was Shanghai.  Its a huge city, well, by population it is the largest in the world with over 17 million souls.  We spent five days acclimating ourselves to the weather and time zone change. Every day there was a new event, some place to go see, the museum, a walk down the Bund, a pleasure complex owned Qin Dynasty General... and food, lots of good food. It is indescribable, but i shall try... beeePHOnK, busselbussel, mmmmm smell of flowers, whatsthathingoverthere...click, baby going potty on the side walk, bike rolls by with five fishtanks on the back rack, with water and fish, imitation watch sir? hot&sticky, need water, its warm, get ice coffee.  fruit stand fruit stand fruit stand, park looks quiet, loud shouts and money flying around during a game of cards at one table and mahjong at another. listen to the birds and crickets, crossing the street is very easy so why does it fell like I just played russian roulette every time I do it? mmmm fried food... Enjoy the photos!

Ryan Brislawn started learning about ceramics at Mount Hood Community College under the tutelage of Stephen Micky and Don Sprague.  He then furthered his education at Central Washington University studding under Stephen Robison. Ryan holds a BFA in studio art from CWU. At CWU Ryan worked as the Studio Technician. Ryan also worked as the Ceramics Program Coordinator for Gallery One.  At Gallery One, Ryan taught adult and children's classes while maintaing the studio and fixing kilns. He received a grant and scholarship to build a woodfire kiln which was constructed Fall Quarter of 2010.  Ryan's future plans are to expand his learning as a graduate student at West Virginia University.  Ryan is very happy and honored to be accepted to WVU.  He is looking forward to produce new and exciting works in clay.

Undergraduate Portfolio

While an undergrad at Central Washington University Ryan's focus was, and is, ceramics. His side focus was studio furniture while taking sculpture classes to explore three-dimentional abstraction.

Kiln Building @ Central Washington University

With the scholarship / grant from the C. Ferrell Scholarship Committee I built a woodfire Train Kiln for Central Washington University.  During Fall Quarter of 1210 Professor Stephen Robison taught a kiln building class which gave me the opportunity to learn the science behind what I was doing while providing the project with extra, much needed, hands.  During Winter Quarter I fired the kiln twice and had two shows with the work form the kiln during Spring Quarter.  Much thanks and gratitude for everyones help and support.
